SOME MORE RETRO-(e)ROBOTS

My job demands right now that i get better at ‘proper’ 3D, much more than voxel 3D, so I haven’t played with Magicavoxel for a while. But it’s an itch I must scratch, so I’ll be back.

In the meanwhile, some heads and bodies. The idea is to make a set of exchangeable parts: heads, limbs, modules and other robot-y cool looking pieces. With 10 different heads, bodies, arms / manipulators  and legs / tracks / wheels / tentacles / displacer modules I should be able to get enough variation.

I already have a dozen heads and half a dozen robot bodies, all based in simple geometric forms. The inspirations were my mediocre classical sketching abilities and the lovely scifi toys and movies from the 30-60’s, and the use of really simple straight and sound shapes allow me to do a lot with really little time (and fits my starter skills).

I guess I’ll make a package of all them once I get them rigged, so anybody can download it and use the models.

but in the meantime:

CUERPO 3
3 basic robot bodies.
CUERPO 3 ISO
Isometric view. +2 to all Cuteness rolls. Also, it helps with proportions and scale.
BOT EXAMPLE
Example with head and one rigged arm
CABEZAS ISO
There are great differences in size, to accentuate their non-natural look. If a joint looks like it’s rigged, it probably is.
CABEZAS
Front view. Some oh the heads are meant to hang from a pole, and the bigger ones will have their own limbs attached

NON-VOXEL RETRO (e)ROBOTS

I’ve been busy working in some cheesy retro looking robots, using Cinema 4D.

I still prefer the ones I did with MagicaVoxel, but as a videographer I really need to improve my C4D skills. So I decided to model some modular bots in the simples way i could, and then learning how to rig the legs and arms.

I need dozens of hours of practice before i get to grips with it, but at least I can render some of the models and they don’t look utterly ugly.

NON-VOXELY ROBOT

Because I’ve been busy trying to get my grips with proper 3d softwares, and I love robots. I’ll be back with voxels, I promise, but in the meanwhile…

KIDBOT 3000

You should love robots, too. The would love you, if they had any feelings apart from contempt for human race and a logic cold desire to exterminate it.

VOXEL MEN – SPEED CHARACTER BUILDING

While I’m trying to build some backgrounds as apartments, furniture, props, streets… for characters, I’ve also made some simple masculine characters, trying to make them as varied as I possibly can with so few detail.

Fun stuff!

Here’s 12 people, rendered with the cute little “export 2D” button. I’ll do some dogs and cats and pack everything in a .zip so anyone can tweak them.

VOXEL WOMEN – SPEED CHARACTER BUILDING

I’ve been doing some human characters between projects and  trying to find the way to represent visually appealing people. By now, I’ve got some different women.

It’s really fun and speedy, once you get the basic shape.  I’ve tried to make them taller, shorter, with different skin colours and hairstyles. The real challenge is to give them as much personality as possible with a single voxel here and there.

Now I need some glasses, accesories and shoes. I used MagicaVoxel’s render engine, and it just looks great. But also, using Blender 3D for rendering is a delight.

WOMAN 11 WOMAN 10 WOMAN 09 WOMAN 08 WOMAN 07 WOMAN 06 WOMAN 05 WOMAN 04 WOMAN 03 WOMAN 02 WOMAN 01

The last girl in black and red is a portrait of my girlfriend. You’ll recognize her inmediately, if you stumble upon her.

I learnt that the great Ephtracy changed the site for the Magicavoxel project to:
