RAILROAD – SOME SERVICE STATIONS

I spent some time thinking about stations for giant railroads.

As a rule of thumb, consider 1 voxel = 1 m. That will give you the approximate scale of the places and the trains.

Oh, how I love the isometric renderer.

VOXEL TRAINS – ISOMETRIC RENDERER

I keep doing voxel trains. This time, military trains. By no means realistic.
One of the videogames that blowed my mind looong time ago was one called Transartica, about a giant train crossing a frozen earth and battling other convoys.

I’ve been coming back to the idea of war trains regularly.

Magicavoxel has now a really neat isometric renderer, that provides these really lovely models:

RAILROAD_01.iso
plain rail road
RAILROAD_ARMOURED_01.iso
Armored gunwagon
RAILROAD_ARMOURED_TROOPS_01.iso
Barracks with searchlight
RAILROAD_CARGO_01.iso
Cargo car.
RAILROAD_CHASSIS_01.iso
The basic chassis I’ve used for the rest of the carriages
RAILROAD_COMMS_01.iso
I’m quite sure there’s never been a radar on a train platform
RAILROAD_LOCOMOTIVE_01.iso
Diesel locomotive. Quite sovietic, huh?

And this is how an assembled convoy looks. I wish I knew how to code a wartrain game, now.

Remember that you can do even beter things just playing with MagicaVoxel and give its author some love:

VOXEL TRAIN

For some reason, this week I’m only thinking of trains. I’m drawing trains, I’m modelling them in proper 3d and the I realized I just wanted a cute voxel train.

The head image is the model rendered in Blender3d, by the way.

AS always, I guess I’ll make a few more carriages, maybe a station, and then I’ll move on.

A robo-train s something that excites me, for some reason. I’m pretty sure I’ll do one.

VOXEL MEN – SPEED CHARACTER BUILDING

While I’m trying to build some backgrounds as apartments, furniture, props, streets… for characters, I’ve also made some simple masculine characters, trying to make them as varied as I possibly can with so few detail.

Fun stuff!

Here’s 12 people, rendered with the cute little “export 2D” button. I’ll do some dogs and cats and pack everything in a .zip so anyone can tweak them.

VOXEL EARTH

I tried to make a cute nice Earth with Magica Voxel. I failed at making it… hm… Roundy?

So I took the least resistance path and made it hexaedrical, copying the awesome ideas  from Cubical Drift. The little elevation was taken from one of those excellent bump maps you can find around to make proper Earth models.

I exported the model to Blender 3D, to get fancy lights and transparent clouds. Also, I wanted an animated gif. I can make the model public if someone asks me, but it’s quite unprecise and it was made reaaaally fast. Do your own Earth, just for fun.

VOXEL WOMEN – SPEED CHARACTER BUILDING

I’ve been doing some human characters between projects and  trying to find the way to represent visually appealing people. By now, I’ve got some different women.

It’s really fun and speedy, once you get the basic shape.  I’ve tried to make them taller, shorter, with different skin colours and hairstyles. The real challenge is to give them as much personality as possible with a single voxel here and there.

Now I need some glasses, accesories and shoes. I used MagicaVoxel’s render engine, and it just looks great. But also, using Blender 3D for rendering is a delight.

WOMAN 11 WOMAN 10 WOMAN 09 WOMAN 08 WOMAN 07 WOMAN 06 WOMAN 05 WOMAN 04 WOMAN 03 WOMAN 02 WOMAN 01

The last girl in black and red is a portrait of my girlfriend. You’ll recognize her inmediately, if you stumble upon her.

I learnt that the great Ephtracy changed the site for the Magicavoxel project to:
